It is used for introducing the isopropyl functional group in organic synthesis. 2-Bromopropane is sometimes used as an alternative to ozone-depleting cleaning solvents such as chlorofluorocarbons. 2-Bromopropane is prepared by heating isopropanol with hydrobromic acid.
