Injectable opioid painkillers, which hospitals use to manage pain after operations and in terminal illness, have been in short supply for more than a year largely due to production problems at Pfizer (PFE.N), the biggest supplier of the drugs.
A report into Australia's illicit drug market has revealed an increase of more than 1,500 per cent in the amount of pharmaceutical opioids seized in Western Australia.
